Are you be done with GT6 because of GT Sport being announced?

Are you sticking with GT6 still or you done with it after GT Sport announcing?

No, its not a visual driven medium, its fun driven.
Anyway this has gone way off topic. We went from "people dont want to pay for online" to "pcs are expensive to play" to "no need for a high end pc to play" and now this... meh. This is going nowhere.

Yeah fun isn't a human sense last I checked.

I'm not planning on getting a PS4, so I'm sticking with GT6. Even if I was, an announcement wouldn't make me stop playing. GTS would have to be released before I stopped playing GT6.

Yeah fun isn't a human sense last I checked.
Human senses that take part of video games are the sight and the hearing. However if a game is boring, no matter now visually good it is, you will stop playing it, so I stand on what I said, "fun" is the number 1 factor in video games.

I don't disagree with that, but I was talking about why we as humans desire better graphics. It's because we desire any visual medium, which a video game is, to look as close to reality as possible.

We're still a LONG way from this, but this is where we're headed, it's just the continuous natural progression.

That depends of each game. Video games dont necessarily represent reality, but can represent fantasy aswell. In that case there's no reality to try to represent

I purchased Assetto Corsa on October 3rd, 2015. My intentions, at the time, were to spend most of my time in AC, but still play GT6 a little bit here and there...at least a couple of nights a week. Before October 3rd, I played GT6 seven days a week. The way it actually turned out? I haven't turned on my PS3 since October 2nd, 2015 and I honestly can't say that I plan on loading GT6 any time soon. At the moment, I have no desire for a PS4 and Gran Turismo Sport. Maybe that will change when it actually releases, but I am not excited about it or anything.

Of course it depends on each game. No one expects Mario Kart to look realistic. But for those games that do attempt to depict realism, which is nearly every big selling game on XBone and PS, what that reality looks like matters to most people, independently from the gameplay. Sports games especially, are just more fun to play when you can see and do everything that is realistic and duplicate a real sporting event as closely as possible. Don't confuse this with deliberate design changes that negatively affect the gameplay of a particular franchise, it's a completely separate issue.

Many of the best selling games on both consoles are fantasy games.

Many of the best selling games on both consoles are fantasy games.
Gamespot says these are the best selling PS4 games for 2014

PlayStation 4:
  1. Destiny
  2. Grand Theft Auto V
  3. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
  4. Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition
  5. The Last of Us Remastered
  6. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
  7. Battlefield 4
  8. Infamous: Second Son
  9. Watch Dogs
  10. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
So the point remains. Graphics are going to be a high priority on any game attempting to mimic reality. Even so called fantasy games have large reality elements to them even if many of the characters and elements are not based on real people or things. The better they look the more convincing they are.

Car games is a case where great graphics help, but not all kinds of games require so many graphics detail.
The first image you posted is not ingame graphics btw. And the second image is GT4 instead of GT6 just in case you didnt realise.

The first image is from Project Cars and in game, there is no photomode. The second image is from GT4 yes. You mentioned in your post that you wanted to wait until 2025 for 4K, so I went back 10 years for a game image to compare.
I'm pretty sure that an Early Gran Turismo 3 Demo (late '00/early '01) isn't Gran Turismo 4 ('04/'05)...

Just pointing out. :P

And just to point out active GTP members in a nutshell nowadays.

% 80 : I have moved on to other video games series, GT sucks and outdated... even that horrible understeering simulator called GT4 which's clearly one of the best PS2 games of all time... and I ether visit this sub forum to just bash GT to hell and get tons of likes or abandoned GT or video games forums to the point that it isn't "GT" Planet anymore...

Also I hate next gen and sim racing wheels because I have to pay for a game price yearly for just online even though I'm fine with buying tons of smart phones and other stuff every year...
Also I had to upgrade wheels which's sucks and make me hate racing games just because I can't own a wheel...and DS4 is impossible for me...

% 20 fans that like GT series but find GT6 to be disappointed, still likes older games of the series and want GT sport to be good. Also they get bashed just because they tried to defend GT in anything...

GTP with GT in a nutshell...

Sorry I had to do it...:P I admit that I'm half of that % 80 and % 20 percent...

As someone who has watched this site for half a decade now, this statement is surprisingly accurate.

As someone who has watched this site for half a decade now, this statement is surprisingly accurate. How would I know? Because I was curious one day and started a list of the sentiments ToyGTone just described. Just to see if things were as bad as it seemed, or if it really was just a few users making all the noise. One rule I set for myself was that I shouldn't quote any user twice (one post per user).

My curiosity resulted in a list that was quite large. About 109 entries worth. 109 comments from 109 members, and I think now is as good a time as any to share it. Make of it what you will.

Note that I didn't name users directly into the list, but did use links as proof that what was quoted was indeed said.

The List:

1-25
1. “There's nothing leading edge about recycling a bunch of decade old assets, and there's nothing fun in the utterly clinical approach GT6 has.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...best-gran-turismo.326811/page-9#post-10857133

2. “GT 6 is basicly a tech demo with cars and tracks, everything else is secondary.

Anything "authentic" is more about lagitamizing the IP than really adding anything to the player experience.

The lack of actual racing and any real player progression in GT 6 just highlights the short comings.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...ing-tool-a-letter-to-kaz.313190/#post-9865364

3. “Just in the year since GT6 launched it's been nothing but a broken game and broken promises. FFS there's still an ongoing thread discussing whether or not camber is working properly. No support from me in the future. I predict Project CARS and Assetto Corsa brings down GT.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/do-you-still-support-pd.321967/#post-10349730

4. “After being burnt by GT5 and 6, Polyphony have to overcome the fact that I just don't want to give them any more of my money.

It's kind of petty, but it's the truth. I try to avoid purchasing products from companies who treat their employees or customers badly, no matter how good the product is.

To me, GT falls into that category now.”

5. “Most people already know my feelings towards the incompetence of PD, so it would come as no surprise if i say no, not since i saw what happened with GT5 and all the BS they have been feeding their fans in the last 5 years since, whilst other developers on much smaller budgets do get it right with their racing games.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/do-you-still-support-pd.321967/#post-10349955

6. “After their brushing off of the Kaz Q&A section, their endlessly vague answers which is honestly ridiculous and the fact they do not listen to the fan base or communicate regularly with us, I've lost all respect for Kaz and PD.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/do-you-still-support-pd.321967/#post-10349978

7. “Physics, graphics, and car count simply arent good enough anymore. Other racing games have raised the bar substantially and I feel PD is going to struggle to keep up. They are already so far behind its pretty much impossible for them to fix all the game's legacy issues in the next title.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...anteed-purchase-for-you.335142/#post-11011359

8. “GT is relevent to the media, yes, but it's not relevent to fans of the series after GT5/6.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/do-you-still-support-pd.321967/page-8#post-10382159

10. “Quick testing last night in the GT500 on Route X confirmed my suspicions; cars still launch arrow-straight with burnouts. I tried in my Mazda 2 and didn't get any hints of torque steer either. Disappointing.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...-as-well-as-video.282389/page-47#post-9041503

11. "There will be no PD purchase after GT6 for me. Everyone else has been moving 2 steps ahead of Kaz and Co. "

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...t-being-announced.337749/page-2#post-11067576

12. “Wow...it finally happened. Gran Turismo imploded and went to nothing but a public-joke topic.
Thumbs up, PD for a 11/10 failure.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...hat-is-convincing.334130/page-3#post-10961841

13. “Pretty much what @Johnnypenso has said holds true for me. Its been about 6 months since I've played and not missing it a bit. I have long since moved on, both game wise and in real life. Unless any future GT releases are much improved from past ones, I doubt I'll be back at all.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...t-being-announced.337749/page-2#post-11068892

14. “Course Maker (Tablet Exclusivity) was the last straw for the ones WHO TRIED HARD TO STAY WITH GT.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/is-it-time-to-let-go.332902/page-10#post-11005590

15. “GT6 was and is a massive failure. They'll have to ramp it up massively for GT7 to be of any interest.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...t-being-announced.337749/page-2#post-11067103

16. “I'm done with GT6 a long time ago moving to Project C.A.R.S and awaiting Assetto Corsa...”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...t-being-announced.337749/page-2#post-11066420

17. “I finished with GT6 the moment Project Cars came out on PS4 but I had been weening myself off it with GTR2 on an old PC which was a great deal better than Gran Turismo.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...t-being-announced.337749/page-2#post-11062582

18. “iracing, Live For Speed and rfactor are much older than GT6 (and even GT5), yet have more accurate simulation, and they can run on incredibly old hardware. Forza 3 managed to incorporate things like tyre flex too yet the 360 has a much a weaker CPU than the PS3. It is not the hardware's fault if PD concentrate their time and hardware budget on graphics rather than the physics. If hardware was the issue, please explain how Richard Burns Rally, a PS2 title from 2004, is still able to remain amongst the most realistic sims of it's kind 11 years later. “

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/thre...re-of-updated-poll-7-27.331717/#post-10848548

19. “Having moved on from console gaming and getting into hardcore PC racing sims 3-4 years ago I can give you an outsiders perspective which is that Forza completely destroys GT in terms of what they offer. I used to think that GT was always better because it had realistic physics, which it really doesn't.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/is-it-time-to-let-go.332902/#post-10899309

20. “It was time to let go when GT5 came out because GT started to fall behind its time, and recent racing games doesn't help GT look better at all, it only makes GT seem outdated. GT got stuck to the PS2 era, when they went on PS3 they didn't make the step forward that most racing games did.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/is-it-time-to-let-go.332902/#post-10899613

21. “GT just doesn't impress me anymore, in the 90's-00's it had little competition and for it's day it was advanced but now there are too many better games which come out quicker and have more content and modern features. After GT5 I gave up and the fact that Standards will probably be also in GT7 was the final nail in the coffin. I bet it won't even have a livery editor.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/is-it-time-to-let-go.332902/page-2#post-10900359

22. “Yes, it is very much time to let go of GT now which is why GT6 will be my last GT. The inconsistencies of 5 and 6, coupled with growing competition have made it a complete laughing stock.”

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/is-it-time-to-let-go.332902/page-2#post-10900379

23. “I have been playing Gran Turismo since GT2 but the series got stale for me after a year and a half of playing GT6 and I can't see myself being committed to a series with developers barely communicating to fans and planning to recycle content from the Playstation 2 era for a Playstation 4 game. I jumped ship a couple of months ago –“

24. “GT6 hardly delivers beyond its core strengths, which undoubtedly deserve some recognition, but I'm finally exhausted waiting for GT to include things that seem like no brainers in this day and age.”

25. “I keep referencing this, but I have a friend that boasted about how huge of a GT fan he was, leading up to GT5. He told me how he played every GT for years. He adored GT. He quit GT5 before I did and never looked back at the GT series. He got rid of his PS3 and didn't give two craps about GT6. He isn't anticipating GT7 at all, either. GT5 was the end for me, too.”

32. “Gave up GT about 2 months ago. Tired of Kaz keeping a tight lid on everything for no reason. The VGT project and standard cars really ruined this game. I will be saving up for an XBOX One and getting a copy of Forza 6. I'm done with the GT series, unless GT7 is mindblowingly good (which it probably won't be).”

Slap 1200 on the box and they assume people will think there must be at least a few hundred cars they want in that. It's only when they play it they realise how lacking it is in many areas.
Basically they're hiding behind the number.”

56. “Yet I just can't see what's fun in GT6 anymore. Why? Maybe because I played other "racing" games. Maybe because I drove a lot more different cars (read: IRL). I don't know. But in the end, it doesn't matter. What matters is that GT6 is neither a good game, nor a good "sim". And no amount of nice tracks, beautifully recreated premium cars, or pretty graphics will change this painful, basic fact.”

58. ‘I don't think so. GT6 like GT5 is an unfinished game, with poor, frustrating game design leading to yet another inconsistent/illogical/mediocre use of the quality content they made.

PD should just make premium cars, tracks, shaders, photomode locations and traliers. All the rest they try to do is garbage, more or less.”

I will need to be convinced that GT7 has addressed some of the lingering and new issues before I consider purchasing it. And I'm pretty sure that's not all the users that have similiar sentiments.

Funny how you're presumably putting those quotes up as evidence of the @ToyGTone 80%. Some of them certainly are, some most definitely are not. A remarkable amount are directed squarely at GT6 and Polyphony's recent failures, and either explicitly or implicitly state that Polyphony and GT used to be really good.

I got to mine in fourth (because there was guaranteed to be one in there somewhere), and I can tell you now that you're absolutely assigning me to the wrong category. Especially given that the quote only directly references GT5 and 6, so you have no idea what I think of Gran Turismo in general.

IMO, GT3 was the best. GT1 and 2 were incredible. GT4 was a very, very good game, but I felt relied a little too much on sheer volume of content. It did introduce some interesting features though, which I would have liked to see developed further. GT5P I actually thought was really strong, despite it's small size.

GT5 was unfortunate, because while there was a decent game in there, it was well hidden behind bugs, frame rate issues, low quality assets, and some peculiar design choices. GT6 unfortunately improved things that weren't really that bad at the cost of even more wacky design choices, features that only the few will ever use, and post-release support that clearly didn't go anything like it was planned to.

I like GT, but I have spent more time in the last six months playing GT5P and GT3 than I have GT6. And if my PSP's battery hadn't died, I'd probably have been playing GT1 and 2 as well.

Most of the discussion that goes on at the moment is about either GT6 or GT Sport. Don't make the mistake of assuming that people's opinions about the latest games reflect their opinions about the series in general unless they actually say so.

I think you should make more effort to confirm that your quotes actually say what you think they say, and not just what you want them to say to try and prove a point. There's a lot of people who love Gran Turismo, but don't love what Gran Turismo has become.

While some people might have come here simply to bash GT, I think it's more likely that most came because at some point they loved GT. I joined while waiting for GT5. I loved the series as a kid, liked GT4, loved GT5P, and wanted to talk about GT5 while we waited. I think GT6 is a passable game compared to games in general, but compared to how amazing past GT games were it's fairly awful. GT Sport looks interesting from what little we've been told so far. It's certainly a step in the right direction, and I'm pretty sure I've said that in other threads.

I think that fits me more into:

% 20 fans that like GT series but find GT6 to be disappointed, still likes older games of the series and want GT sport to be good. Also they get bashed just because they tried to defend GT in anything...

Except for the bashing part. People bash me because they see me as some sort of anti-GT apostate. It's just that the things that I think GT6 does well aren't questioned by most. GT6's premium cars and tracks do look pretty. It does have an enormous selection of cars and tracks. Pretty much all the rest of the game is somewhere between slightly above average and awful. Although there are some bits that simply appear awful, like the AI which I suspect is at least pretty good when it's not hamstrung by a horrible rubber band system (design choices again).

There's a lot of people who love Gran Turismo, but don't love what Gran Turismo has become.

So far, I think that this statement is the best interpretation of my list.

You're right that I made the list sound like it was people's opinions of GT as a whole, and that was born out of my idea that GT6 is representative of the franchise as it stands today and thus is the face of Gran Turismo the franchise.
Ghost of GT present if you will.
GT5 and back I tend to view as the GT as it was (and in some ways the GT I wish was still here) and that GT6 is the present day incarnation. One most seem to have some disappointment with. Perhaps I'm mistaken in this thinking.

@FrzGT, I see you caught that one. :)

So far, I think that this statement is the best interpretation of my list.

If that's so, then that list is better described as the 20% of people who like GT but were disappointed with GT6.

You're right that I made the list sound like it was people's opinions of GT as a whole, and that was born out of my idea that GT6 is representative of the franchise as it stands today and thus is the face of Gran Turismo the franchise.

No, I think you're right. It's just that it's easy to see people's dissatisfaction with GT6 and forget that in all likelihood, GT6 isn't the reason that they became GT fans in the first place.

I think it's also easy to see comments like mine about how hesitant I would be to buy a future GT game and misinterpret that as hoping that the next game would be bad.

In general, I like racing games. I'd love another good racing game, and if GT Sport or GT7 were excellent racing games then I would love to buy them. What's changed is that before the PS3 generation, I would have paid a lot of money for the next Gran Turismo game even if it got worldwide 0/10 reviews and came smeared in excrement. Right now, I'll pay a reasonable price for the next Gran Turismo game after reading reviews from several reviewers and players that I trust, and probably having played it for a little bit myself to satisfy myself that it's quality meets what I expect for my money.

That's mostly because I (and I assume others) do take GT6 as representative of the current face of GT. If GTS is going to be more of GT6, then to be honest I want no part of it. If GTS is going to take the good parts of GT6 and develop in new directions, then I'm totally on board. Well, as on board as I can be without owning a PS4.

I'm sticking with gt6 because gt sport doesn't support my Logitech g27! Lol...just kidding. I'm not one of those whinning blokes. I have a t300 and a t500.

I actually just picked up a super slim 500gb ps3 brand new last night. Installed updates 1-6, loaded up the game, quit, installed updates 7-21, had a few beers, fell asleep, loaded up my save game backup last night from Feb 2015, and I'm back up and running right where I left off. Feels great to be back!!

I got excited to finally hear about gran turismo for ps4, so thats what got me back into gt6. Its time to get back into gt! I've really missed this game since I got sucked into Iracing last year. There's just something about the gran turismo games that keeps me entertained, no matter what mode, race, offline, or online.

Hmm, my two posts are a little off topic for this thread. Time to correct that.

I won't be dropping GT6 because of GT Sport. GTS sounds like it is going to be all about the FIA championship, which means a heavier than usual online focus. Which says something because GT5 and 6 were very dependant on their online components to give them longevity, and I'm not too keen on online play.

Aside from that, i believe that GTSport will not be that different from GT6. From a technical standpoint. For example, I expect that GTSport will continue to treat tires as a single block of rubber, damage will still be next to non-existent for a sim, AI will continue to not be that good, and engine sounds won't improve that much either. Okay, maybe these things will improve but compared to what other racing games are doing they will still be sub-par.

A little warning, this next part might come off as a little depressing for some, tis a little rant.

Think about it, they've practically spent the entirety of the PS3 generation being a gen behind everyone else. They were the only simulator to lack, among other things, a livery editor, a comprehensive damage model, truely intelligent AI, and tire deformation to say nothing about sound quality. If the Q&A and Course Maker (didn't say anything about tablets until the last minute) is any indication, things aren't going to change much on the PS4, which means that seeing the next round of GT compared to their competition is going to be rather painful to see. I've yet to see any indications to the contrary.

It just doesn't seem feasible for PD to just leapfrog themselves to parity with other games.

Gran Turismo used to be my favorite racing game, but it is just too embarrassing to be playing and trying to remain hopeful for a game that has become the joke of the genre ("vacuum cleaners","zombie AI"). A fact I'm reminded of every time I come to GTPlanet. It's just a little too upsetting at this point. For me at least.

I'm not saying that this should all stop, I believe in the phrase "reap what you sow" especially in PD's case. If anything, it might feel good to be able to have the option to join in on the laughing when GTSport and then GT7 rolls around. To put it another way, it might feel good to laugh at the joke rather than being a part of it.

If I'm getting the PS4 for any racing game, it would either be pCARS or Assetto Corsa. Two top notch simulators that at the very least won't be embarrassing to play.

PS - Yeah I've just qualified myself for that little list of mine.

Pardon my ignorance but what is GT Sport? Haven't even touched GT6 or been on the GTP forums for ages, and it seems like I've missed out on quite a bit.

I also feel the need to add here that I got GT1 on release day and have owned every one since. I've been one of the most diehard fanboys of the series over the years until this year. And it is apparent I am not alone.

GTsport might be great, GT7 might be mind bending, but PD is going to have to almost literally reinvent the wheel to get me back as a continuing fan and patron.

I was done with GT6 a long time ago and will not be moving on to GT Sport.
Have you started playing a different title? Or have you just abandoned virtual racing?

As of today, I can say that I won't be moving on to GT Sport either. I'm having too much fun with Assetto Corsa and if I move on from AC it will be to something else PC based. However, I think it's easy for me to say that today because GT Sport doesn't exist yet. When it finally gets released I might be so blown away that I run right out and purchase a PS4, equipment if I need it, and GT Sport. Only time will tell...but I can admit that my feelings as of this moment are: I'm done with the GT franchise.

I've moved on to rFactor 2, iRacing, Stock Car Extreme, Dirt Rally, and any other PC sims I can find good racing in. ;)

The fact that it takes that much effort to move between games here is crazy, Plug your system into the wall and be done with it. I can play most racing games without having to adjust to the physics. I can't be the only one who thinks it's possible to play more than one game at a time without leaving the other?

what I mean is hopefully I can get Project cars and a PS4 over the holidays with price drops, but when I do, I'll hang on to my PS3 and GT6 until the day that the online service is dropped.

I don't have the time to play two different games. The only reason I've given up on GT6 is because I enjoy Assetto Corsa ten times more than I enjoy GT6. It has nothing to do with adjusting to different physics...there just isn't any reason to play GT6 when I could be truly enjoying my time in AC. I struggle much more with my lap times in AC compared to GT6 - hopefully that will change soon.

@Ettick rFactor 2 intrigues me quite a lot. The modding communities of these PC based sims are incredible!!

I will play GT6 as long as I can. I can't really understand the idea of playing only one game to rule them all, like dropping everything else and playing ONLY AC or ONLY pCars or ONLY rF2, or dropping a game FOREVER. I mean, what? Will somebody take my old copy of a game away if I decide to play anything else? I currently play from time to time GT2, GT3, GT6 and GT5 at the same time with rF, AC, f1C and GTR2 mixed in. I really couldn't choose just one - every game has some funny quirks, some parts better and some parts worse. There's no problem playing GTR2 one day, GTPC mod for rF the other day and top it off with GT6 session on the third day. I would bore myself to death sticking to just one title.
