Greetings to our fellow connoisseurs of the more offbeat and underappreciated cars here in the GT5 world. Our tunes will be dedicated to these oft times neglected cars. Some of them are surprisingly potent vehicles, some are simply quirky and fun to cruise around in, and a few may deserve the amount of neglect and scorn heaped upon them.

A couple examples of the kinds of tunes you can expect to find here are things like using an Isuzu Pizza XX '81 to try and win the Supercar Eifel seasonal race (can be done with the right cars starting on pole). Or Harvey Wallbanger's quest to get his Daihatsu Copen active top around Nürburgring Nordschleif in under 8 minutes (Successful 7:51.155)

So you won't be likely to find the same sorts of tunes here as you will at the vast majority of other shops.

As always reviews and feedback on the cars and their tunes are always welcome. I ask that even negative reviews be given in a friendly and positive manner so that we can all benefit from them.

If we can't be driving or tuning the cars we love there's nothing better than spending an afternoon or evening with good company bench racing and comparing our favorite rides. So grab a seat at the bar or one of the tables, order a pint of your favorite and one of our Outlaw burgers with steak fries (1lb beef, several generous slices of Tillamook cheddar cheese, 1/4lb bacon, fresh sliced Walla Walla sweet onions, lettuce, tomatoes and some pickles. With a second dinner plate of steak fries and your choice of condiments) and talk cars with us.

The full time staff here in the Outlaw Motorsports Garage currently consists of myself Harvey Wallbanger (XDesperado67) as head outlaw.
ACSR421 as transmission and LSD specialist as well as Associate Tuner and Assistant Test Driver.
-raVer- is an Associate Tuner and member of the Outlaw Motorsports Garage "Skunk Works" design team.

Diogo G. Itinerant barfly and sometime Tuner
comandorando87 sometime journalist, test driver, grease monkey and barfly. Wandered in one night mumbling something about rainbow colored pigeons driving tanks and has yet to clear the subsequent bar tab.

CSLACRis an associate tuner and test driver. Currently owner operator of Photo Finish Racing a garage dedicated mainly to high performance race car tunes.

Welcome to the madhouse of tuning garages. 👍

Wow, that "GM AE86" (aka the Piazza) is running a lot of camber and brakes. But if you're sticking it to Ferrari Californias, then who am I to question it!

Almost forgot to add a couple notes on my driving.
I use the Driving Line (rough guide for my brake points mainly, I'm far from a great driver remember) and ABS1 only. All other aids are turned off unless otherwise noted.
I tend to brake hard and fairly late for corners and jump back on the throttle as soon as possible (obviously this has lead to many encounters with backside obstacles such as walls hence the nickname ) I am slowly acquiring a slightly smoother form but its not as natural to me.

As for my setup I'm using a slightly abused ds3 controller (to much Madden football:))

If you turn off ABS, you'll have no trouble at all locking the wheels :nervous: :nervous:

They'll lock but the car just slides in a straight line. If you lock them in the middle of a hard turn the inside of the car is likely to lift off the ground. Of course what I didn't try was race hards or sports softs.

If your looking for a car that is an absolute blast to drive check out the Toyota Corolla Levin GT-APEX (AE86) '83. This car just ate corners at Eifel I'm neither a great driver nor a drifter but the first time (totally by accident) that I pulled a full throttle 4 wheel drift across the top of the rise and found myself not only still in complete control of the car but lined up dead on the driving line and with perfect entrance position and speed to hit the left hander at the bottom I got the worlds biggest grin. This car loves to be tossed about and yet even without any aero modifications shows great grip in corners and stability at speed. It's only real flaw is a lack of power that limits its speed down the long front straight. With a full modification you have a choice of either the supercharger or stage3 turbo.
FujiSpeedwayF.jpg

Photo supplied courtesy of BryCivicSi
Parts & Modifications used for this tune after engine tuneup and body tightning applied to car:

Body-Chassis; weight reduction stage 3, window weight reduction, Chassis reinforcement
Engine; ECU tuning, engine tuning stage 3
Intake System; sports intake manifold, racing air filter
Exhaust; sports exhaust manifold, catalytic converter sports, titanium racing exhaust
Turbo Kits; high rpm range turbo kit if driving with automatic transmission, supercharger if driving with manual transmission
Transmission; fully customizable transmission
Drivetrain; clutch twin-plate, flywheel semi-racing, adjustable LSD, carbon drive shaft
Suspension; fully customizable kit
Tires; racing softs

The tune:
Transmission; with automatic set top speed to 155 mph (note- I drive only automatic transmission) For best results with supercharger and manual transmission the gears will probably need to be adjusted a bit however your top speed should still be about 155 mph.
LSD; initial 15, acceleration 35, braking 25
Suspension as follows;
Camber Angle front 3.0 rear 1.5
Toe Angle front -0.20 rear 0.00
Ride Height Adjustment front -25 rear-5
Spring Rate front 13.8 rear 14.4
Dampers (Extension) front 6 rear 6
Dampers (compression) front 6 rear 6
Anti-Roll Bars front 6 rear 6
Brakes; front 7 rear 7

Fully tuned with either the High rpm turbo or the Supercharger the car has 474 PP.
The turbo version produces 270 HP and 194 ft/lb torque@6900 rpm. Redline is 8900 rpm and there is very little drop in HP and torque between peak and redline.
The Supercharged version produces 261 HP and 218 ft/lb torque@5400 rpm. Redline is 8900 rpm and there is only slightly greater drop off between peak and redline than the turbo exhibits.

Again this is a very fun car to toss around the track with a very light and nimble feeling, yet maintaining a poised and easily handled personality at all times.

Until next time...
Drive hard and have fun!:gtpflag:

Good to see the garage open!

Done one for the Fiat seasonal yet?

Grrr:grumpy: you would have to bring that up.
Afraid I'm one of those poor souls still struggling to win those seasonals. My time is getting closer and its improving my driving overall but...didn't fit my "normal" driving style at all.

Glad to see you here Trainman and hope to see a couple of your oddballs tuned here as well.

The Ultimate Supercar!

Okay its officially my favorite car in the game after taking it to the Supercars in an epic David VS Goliath match. I already loved it but this was of mythic proportions!

What is this Wünder Car you ask?
What car could possibly have Harvey Wallbanger, GT5s own lovable outlaw, dancing a jig and singing its praises?

Ladies and gentlemen it is my honor and privilege to present to you...a car I have affectionately dubbed the "Pocket Monster"...the one...the only...
Daihatsu Cuore TR-XX Avanzato R (J) '97 "Pocket Monster":bowdown::gtpflag:

Yes folks that's correct! A Kei car has won a race in the Supercar Festival!

Okay so by now your probably wondering how to setup your own "Pocket Monster". Never fear because Harvey and the rest of the gang here at the Cafe & Outlaw Motorsports garage are ready to reveal all!
EigerNordwandShortTrack_7.jpg

EigerNordwandShortTrack_10.jpg

Start with the engine overhaul and the chassis adjustment from GT auto. Then pick up the following parts from the tuning shop:

Body/Chassis; weight reduction stage 3, window weight reduction, chassis reinforcement
Engine; ECU tuning, engine tuning stage 3
Intake System; sports intake manifold, racing air filter
Exhaust; sports exhaust manifold, catalytic convert sports, titanium racing exhaust
Turbo Kits; If you are using an automatic transmission (this is what Harvey uses) then get the high rpm range turbo kit (stage 3). If you drive with a manual transmission then get the mid rpm range turbo kit (stage 2).
Transmission; fully customizable transmission
Drivetrain; clutch twin-plate, flywheel semi-racing, adjustable LSD
Suspension; fully customizable kit
Tires; racing soft

The Tune:
ACSR421
Transmission
1st: 1.960
2nd: 1.383
3rd: 1.063
4th: .853
5th: .703
Final: 4.910 adj. per track
Max Speed: 137 MPH

* First set to default. Move final all the way to the right then max speed all the way right and back to far left now back to 137 mph. After all this set the final and individual gears to posted settings. This sounds like alot of work but it gives the best gearing for the unrestricted Coure.

Lsd; initial 8, acceleration 20, braking 5

Suspension settings as follows:
Camber; front 1.0, rear 1.0
Toe; front -0.20, rear 0.00
Ride height; front -25, rear -25
Spring rate; front 12.0, rear 11.0
Dampers (Extension); front 5, rear 5
Dampers (Compression); front 5, rear 5
Anti-Roll bars; front 5, rear 5

Brakes; front 7, rear 7

Fully tuned with the high rpm range turbo kit the car has 486 PP, 191 HP and max torque of 141 ft/lb@5400 rpm with an 8900 rpm redline. There is only a slight dip in torque between peak power and redline on this version.
Fully tuned with the mid rpm range turbo kit the car has 502 PP, 202 HP and max torque of 197 ft/lb@5400 rpm with an 8900 rpm redline. All this extra HP and torque comes at a price however as the mid rpm range turbo kit makes this a very peaky power curve with a serious drop in both HP and torque between peak power and redline.

That's all there is to it folks, your own "Pocket Monster"!

As a bonus here's the adjustments I make when chasing the low time in the Lightweight K Cup Eifel race (current best for me is 2:49.350)

Chassis/Body; Add 200 kg of ballast in position 43. This should result in a 50/50 weight distribution.
Engine; With the high rpm range turbo kit installed set the power limiter to 92.1%. With the mid rpm range turbo kit you'll need to set the power limiter to 81.7%.
ACSR421
Eifel circuit Daihatsu Coure trans. settings

2.238
1.618
1.249
1.005
.832
final 5.100
top speed 137 mph

*reset to default then top speed to 137 mph. Now set final then each individual gears.

That's it folks your now ready for the Lightweight K Cup races.

Note: Daihatsu sold this car as the Mira TR-XX Avanzato R '97 in its domestic Japanese home market.
Note 2: The Kei cars appear to be slightly more prone to engine fatigue than some other cars. This means that final HP and Torque numbers could see some variance from the numbers listed above depending on mileage. Conversely if the maximum numbers are slightly down you can use a lower amount on the power limiter to attain the 420 PP limit for the Lightweight K Cup seasonal.

Until next time...
Drive hard and have fun!:cheers::gtpflag:

As requested by XDesperado67, here's a review on one of his cars. Not my best, as it was typed out at 1AM and early in the morning (the two times of day where you're at your laziest and most uncreative) due to a lack of time, but the review is much like the car. Short, quick, nothing complicated, and very child-ish in some areas.

Daihatsu Cuore review-

This car was set up for the Kei car seasonals. The car’s power, the weight, where that weight is placed, all of it has been taken into account to make sure that this will rip up the tarmac of the Eiffel circuit as quickly as those skinny little tyres can get it around. But speed only makes up half of this car. This tune. What it can also do, is turn the world into a cartoon. It’s so much fun! The noise, the grip, the pace, all of it, only does one thing. It makes you feel…happy. It flies past traffic like its suddenly been gifted 1000 horse power. There’s the same feeling of the wave of never-ending power pushing you along as you’d get in a X1. And then you get to a corner. Now, since I know next to nothing about Kei cars, my first thought was, ‘Is this a 4WD?’ And after a few more laps, this suspicion just kept on coming up. I kept thinking ‘Did Nismo or Ralliart have something to do with this? Why does it feel like I’m driving a GTR??’ It’s amazing, it’s only a FF, but with a 50/50 weight distribution and those racing softs, it feels, and handles, like it’s been possessed by Godzilla. It never understeers. Not only that, but get aggressive with it and you’d get something very few FF’s have. Lift-off oversteer. The moment when the rear tyres lose grip as opposed to the fronts giving in. That is something very rare. And very enjoyable. Which sort of defines this car really. Imagine this as the downsized offspring of a GTR and a NSX. The grip of the GTR, the purposeful-ness of the NSX, mixed in with some japanese lunacy/idiocy, and then get someone with a good touch with tuning to do it up. That’s what this has become. A perfect blend of FF grip, and FR oversteer. And now, I’m asking my self an important question…should I keep this car, risk getting reported and banned, or bid it a final farewell…well, although I’ll be sad to see it go (It made me feel so happy and young! Try it, trust me, it’s a fantastic little car, earned me 1.2 mil :D, didn’t even notice the time go by), at least I’ll know that I’ll have done it (some) justice with writing this. I hope.

(This section was added just because there’s so much I like)
Things I like-
-Very quick for its size
-Corners like a 4WD/FR
-MASSIVE FUN!!!!!!! :D :D !!!!!!
-Grips like a GTR
-Very agile
-Sleeper-y looks

Things that need improvement-
-Unrestricted it!!!!
-Try to make this work on sport soft, it would be even more fun and just as competitive as it would be on racing soft

I appreciate that, but I have the one you sent me in the machine shop getting a rebuild as we speak!
Hmmmm best I did was eighth at eiffel super-seasonal. Very little change in times for mid or high range turbo kits.
I also have to realize that you drive this car a lot.

Thanks for the review Onboy123. Glad you enjoyed it, and by the way the car was a gift so please keep it, and whenever your inner child wants to come out and play take it out for a spin!:D

Besides everyone should have their own "Pocket Monster" show the big boys their not the only ones with attitude!

Oh…whoops, sent it back cuz I thought it was a borrowed car for the review………
Can you send it back to me?? :D

Sure it would be my pleasure!:) Afraid it will be a couple days though as I have cars already promised to send out.

If you want when I send it back I can unrestrict it. Or you can do that with the tune I posted up.

Well, I have now won the Fiat Seasonal and I thought I would share my tune, take it as you see fit :nervous:

It is based on one of the other tunes that is around but to be honest I can not remember who's. But whoever it came from, many thanks!

Stage 2 weight reduction, with 101 kg ballast added, distributed 50%. The distribution made a huge difference in the handling of the 500 and is the only reason I did the weight reduction.

Engine stock, with 84.9% power limiting. I had to play with this as the HP kept going up the more I drove it!

Racing air filter;

Sports exhaust;

No turbo. Tried a mid-range but could not get the HP under 67, and as I noted above it kept going up.

Fully customizable transmission, with a top speed set to 160 kph.

Twin plate clutch.

Semi-racing flywheel.

Fully customizable suspension set as follows (Front/Rear):
Ride height: -10/-15
Spring rate: 4/3.3
Dampers Ext: 2/3
Dampers Comp: 1/2
Anti-roll bars: 1/3
Camber: 1.2/0.8
Toe angle: 0/-0.25

Brakes: 2 front, 1 rear.

Ended up at 289 performance points. Won the race on the fourth try with this setup by 0.723 seconds and going away. Use all the track, keep smooth, master the corner at the end of the long straight. I was able to maintain a speed of 100 kph through that corner, if I did not, there was no real hope of catching the leader.

Oh, and watch out for AI trying to block you :boggled:

What did I win? A Ford Falcon. My second one :(

Have fun and keep the black side down!

The Outlaw Motorsports Garage Tunes
HKS FT230R '08

Okay decided to join the tuner shootout for this car. Must say this isn't the sort of car I generally enjoy tuning and driving and this car reminded me why. Yes its fast, yes it has a lot of grip, and yes it doesn't like to turn!:yuck:
Didn't waste time once I picked it up from the dealer getting to work to try and improve its handling.
After changing the oil, putting a set of racing wheels on it and stiffening the chassis, I put a set of soft racing tires on it. Then bolted in a High RPM Turbo kit and upgraded the drivetrain with the Torque Sensing Center Differential, and finished off by swapping in a Fully Customizable Transmission.
Made some adjustments to the suspension and aero and Harvey was off to the Supercar Eifel race. Thanks mainly to its tremendous acceleration winning this event wasn't too hard, however its performance left a lot to be desired.
After many hours of hard work Harvey felt we had it about as good as it was going to get for us. Packing it in we headed over to Deep Forest for a few solo hot laps. Oops Harvey showed why he's called Wallbanger. At this point I'm at a loss so for better or worse here's the tune.

Parts needed:
Rays Volk Racing GTS wheels(high Chrome)
Oil change
Chassis Reinforcement
High RPM Range Turbo Kit
Fully Customizable Transmission
Torque Sensing Center Differential
Soft Racing tires

The Tune:(Outlaw spec.II)
Aerodynamics; front 20, rear 25
Transmission; (Credit for this transmission goes to Adrenaline) 1st-3.505, 2nd-2.560, 3rd-2.010, 4th-1.655, 5th-1.398, final-2.500
LSD; front-init5, acc50, brake5. rear init5, acc50, brake5
Torque Sensing Center Differential; front50, rear50

Suspension Settings:
Toe; front -0.30, rear -0.30
Camber; front 3.0, rear 2.0
Ride Height Adjustment; front -15, rear 10
Spring Rate; front 11.5, rear 15.0
Dampers(ext); front 4, rear 5
Dampers(comp); front 3, rear 4
Anti-Roll Bars; front 4, rear 4

Brakes; front 7, rear 9

Okay for what its worth there it is. For some reason it seemed to be turning in nicely and holding its line fairly well on the Supercar eifel, with only a hint of lift off understeer. Deep Forest seemed to bring the understeer back at times, most notably in the first turn, really had to brake down there or it just refused to rotate pushing off track into the grass and generally hitting the wall.:banghead:

Any thoughts on ways to improve the turn in and handling appreciated. Some people may like this setup and these types of cars in general so enjoy, as for me I think I hear a Ford Focus ST '06 asking to go play with the big boys!

Until next time
Drive hard and have fun!:cheers::gtpflag:

Cuore TR-XX is just perfect Desperado.

Congrats. Managed 2:48:4xx in Eifel. Grinded a lot with him, =D

Thanks! I think thats possibly my favorite car in the game currently just because its so fun to drive and nobody expects that sort of performance from a FF Kei car of all things.

Thinking of taking the unrestricted version to Nürburgring and see if I can get it under 8 minutes!

The Ultimate Supercar!

...a car I have affectionately dubbed the "Pocket Monster"...the one...the only...Daihatsu Cuore TR-XX Avanzato R (J) '97:bowdown::gtpflag:

...

Quick question, is the Pocket Monster (I was thinking I might call mine the Pocket Rocket, after Henri Richard) available from the dealership or do I need to find it in the used car lot? I am not on the PS3 right now, but this sounds like a fun car!
